Writing Workshops

Many of the poets involved in this anthology are available for author visits and workshops.

We are able to offer tailor-made writing workshops based on the poems in There’s No Smoke Without Dragons.

The sessions are run by poets with many years experience in writing in schools and are fun, informative and inspiring. We also provide you with pre-visit activities and a pack of teacher goodies for use after the workshops.

We can bring you scientific dragons, mathematical dragons or geographical dragons. We’ve got dragons that get into trouble ; who grow too big and dragons in love.  We meet the dragons who control our weather and those who live in volcanoes and might cause disasters. There are fierce dragons; grumpy dragons; real Komodo dragons; Chinese dragons and  dragons called Ashley and Alfred.

Our dragon poems inspire musical or dramatical interpretations as well as many wonderful artistic and creative responses. The poetry also allows for the discussion of real issues as well as generating critical thinking. The teacher book that accompanies the anthology offers stimulating teaching sequences that enable children to have  positive and exciting  writing experiences.

A Dragon themed writing day will be an experience to remember!

We are now taking bookings for September 2010 onwards.

Can you please give me some information on a dragon themed input from an author or poet? I am a teacher of a primary 2/3 class in Fife, Scotland and I am going to use the novel “Cinder The Bubble Blowing Dragon” to base my cross-curricular work on. Thank you

Thanks Claire.
I have passed your details onto Donald Nelson who is a talented Scottish storyteller and poet. I’m sure he will be in touch with you very soon. Keep us posted with the exciting dragon cross-curricular work.
